The Micro Finance and Small Loan Centre (MASLOC), since its inception two years ago, has disbursed GH˘31.4 million to over 91,000 persons nationwide.

The Chief Executive Officer of the centre, Lawrence Akwasi Prempeh, who disclosed this while speaking at a forum for the media and small and medium scale enterprises in Koforidua, said for this year, GH˘22.6 million had been earmarked for disbursement to 39,000 people.

The dialogue was to enable the media articulate concerns impeding efficient business operations in the country, with a view to promoting development.

Participants were drawn from the media and some trade associations.

Mr Prempeh explained that the centre was instituted to address financial challenges of micro, small and medium enterprises by facilitating prudent and judicious management of government credit.

He said an additional GH˘6.7 million had been disbursed to support 42,069 beneficiaries through pro- poor schemes of 16 ministries, departments and agencies.

The Chief Executive of Kab Consult, Facilitators, Kwasi Afriyie Badu was confident the dialogue would offer the media the opportunity to help enhance the capacity of emerging and established business associations.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and PSI has initiated a programme dubbed, ‘Domestic Trade and Industrial Services Improvement Project’ to seek support for local industries.

The deputy Sector Minister, Gifty Ohene Konadu, who made this known in Koforidua, encouraged entrepreneurs to register their businesses to enable them access credit.

She said phase two of the project would provide capacity building for people in the sector in order to position them to deliver quality services.
