| Government will continue to support tertiary institutions |

Hajia Ramatu Mahama, wife of the Vice President Aliu Mahama, on Saturday said government would continue to support institutions of higher learning to enable them produce the right calibre of human resource needed for national development.
She therefore, called on students of tertiary institutions to learn hard to enable them to pass their examinations to justify government's huge investments in education. Hajia Ramatu was speaking at the Home Economics Students Association of the University of Education, Winneba, Week celebration, at Winneba on Saturday.
She called on educated women to play a front line role in helping to shape the lives of the less privileged to enable them support their families. Hajia Ramatu told members of the Association to sustain their efforts at promoting education in their respective communities, especially that of the girl-child to enable more girls to be educated.
The Deputy Minister of Education, Ms. Angelina Baiden-Amissah whose speech was read for her, said home economics was a discipline concerned with managing the activities of everyday life and urged members to take the course seriously.
She called on home economists to play a vital role in national development, and asked Ghanaians to consider the course as a programme that fully contributed to family development.
Professor Asabere-Ameyaw, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University, appealed to the government and organizations to come to the aid of the Department. He said the infrastructure base of the Department did not support more intake even though many people applied for admission.
Prof. Asabere-Ameyaw said the Department was still using old structures and equipment that were provided since its establishment in 1954.
The President of the Association, Ms. Vivian Eyi-Mensah said the Department has established a club that went on outreach programmes to educate people in Winneba on health, family life and HIV/AIDS. She said that the Department was in dire need of a fully equipped new block and vehicle to enhance its activities,
