A two-day workshop on leadership management and the implementation of quality education initiatives is underway in Tamale.

It is being organised by the Ghana Education Service and attended by 120 head teachers from the Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions.

It provides the opportunity for primary school head teachers to reflect on their roles as teachers and how leadership impacts on achieving quality education in their communities.

A lecturer at the leadership and educational policy unit of the Institute for Educational Planning and Administration, IEPA of the University of Cape Coast, Dr. George Oduro said the workshop marks the beginning of the first phase of a DFID funded project dubbed "Equal”.

The project is to help strengthen the leadership and management capacities of teachers for the effective implementation of quality pre and primary school education initiatives in Ghana.

Dr. Oduro noted that without efficient leadership and quality managerial skills by teachers, government's policies on quality education will be a mirage.

The Deputy Northern Regional Director of the Ghana Education Service, Alhaji Iddrisu Adam implored participants to be proactive in their efforts to ensure the growth and development of education in the Northern Sector of the country.
