| Private schools urged to recruit trained teachers |

Alhaji Mohammed Haroon, Assistant Director in charge of Human Resource in the Tamale Metropolitan Education Directorate, on Wednesday advised heads of private schools to recruit trained teachers to improve upon standards.
He said the new education reforms to take off in September required the services of trained and professional teachers.
Alhaji Haroon said this at a meeting in Tamale with heads and proprietors of private schools operating in the Tamale Metropolis. The meeting, organised by the Tamale Metropolitan Education Directorate, was to discuss with the heads the proper opening and registration of their schools, the new education reforms and the need for private schools to provide correct data on their enrolment. Alhaji Haroon also stressed the need for private schools' heads to provide in-service training for their teachers and also take advantage of the Untrained Teachers' programme organised by the government. He said technical and vocational education should vigorously be pursued in all schools to ensure that children would have a vocation after school so that those who could not make it to higher institutions would become self-employed.
Hajia Samata Gifty Bukari, the Assistant Director in charge of private schools in the Tamale Metropolitan Education Directorate, called for the full introduction of Sports and culture into the curricula of private schools.
Mr. Albert Atutiga, the Northern Regional chairman of the Private Schools Association, appealed for the provision of materials to run the four-year senior high school and the nursery programmes and the involvement of private schools in decision-making.
He advised the private schools to open up to the Ghana Education Service for supervision and inspection
