The School Feeding Programme in the Central Region is under threat following protests by cooks and care takers who claim their allowances have not been paid.
The cooks and care takers say the government has failed to pay them their allowances for the past six to nine months.
That situation they say is making life unbearable for them.
This came to light when the Deputy Central Regional Minister, Cape Coast Municipal Chief Executive, Mrs. Mercy Arhin and the regional Co-coordinator of the programme, Ebow Jackson paid a surprised visit to schools under the programme.
It was also revealed that the quantity of food served the children had reduced and was attributed to the escalating food prices.
Mr Jackson said the programme had boosted enrolment schools and taken the burden of providing food children in school off parents.
He therefore appealed to district assemblies to pay the allowances of the cooks to ensure a smooth running of the programme.
