Professor Grace Yawo Gadagbui of the University of Education Winneba (UEW) has advised teachers to avoid making uncomplimentary remarks against children with disability.

He said any such comment could affect the morale, education and development of the children.

Prof. Gadagbui was presenting a paper on “Inclusive Education in Ghana; Challenges and Future Implications for all Stakeholders”, as part of UNESCO-Ghana at 50 Anniversary Lecture series, on Tuesday in Accra.

She called for special training for all teachers to enable them to handle school children with varying backgrounds.

Prof. Gadagbui said “Let’s try to have positive teacher attitude by trying to embrace all school children no matter their conditions and encourage them no matter how bad they are”.

She said some children dropped out of school because the school system could not address their problems.

Prof. Gadagbui called for a total overhaul of the entire academic syllabi and methods of teaching in schools to deal effectively with the less brilliant children.

She called for provision of state-of-the-art equipment and better remuneration packages for teachers to enable them to give off their best.

Mrs Esi Sutherland Addy, Lecturer at the Institute of African Studies, University of Ghana, called on stakeholders to effectively implement policies to address problems in the education sector.

She called on the Ghana Education Service to periodically organize seminars for teachers and heads of schools to facilitate teaching and learning.
