SINGER Gyedu Blay Ambulley breezed into town a week ago from his base in the United States eager for some action.
A drink-up at the newly-opened jazz bar at Alisa Hotel last Tuesday to mark the fifth anniversary of AfricaTalk.org, an advocacy group for African development, provided a fine opportunity for a jam session featuring him, veteran guitarist Ebo Taylor and keyboardist Opoku Mensah Ayim.
Occasionally sitting in on drums, Ambulley and his two friends created a nostalgic ambience with some pristine jazz, Afro-beat and highlife tunes. A small audience of AfricaTalks.org members and guests nibbled on the anniversary cake and made small talk with the aid of a few beers, wine and fruit juices while the trio encased everything with some pleasurable melodies. It was a relaxing enjoyable evening in the cosy bar.
AfricaTalks.org spokesperson, Dr Amos Anyimadu, announced before the music started that the organisation in conjunction with the World Bank, will later in the year organise a conference under the broad subject of The Mobile Ghana Conference.
He said an aspect of it will deal with the impact of the mobile phone on the music industry.
