| Veep asks actors to promote African values, traditions |

Vice President Alhaji Aliu Mahama on Wednesday asked Ghanaian actors and actresses to showcase African values, traditions and dare to reach the greater heights of their profession.
Speaking at a meeting with a 10-member delegation from the Ghana Film Industry, he said the Government was ready to promote such an initiative and make acting a lucrative venture.
The delegation, led by an ace actor Mr Kofi Adjololo, was at the Castle to present the best African Best Supporting Actress Award, won by a Ghanaian actress, Ms Jacqueline Appiah at a recent annual African Movie Academy Awards in Nigeria.
Vice President Mahama said although acting was a business he would liaise with the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Culture to see how best local actors and actresses could be supported.
She commended the Actress for dedicating the prestigious award to Ghana's 50th independence anniversary.
"We are all proud of you. It is in line with the theme for the celebration - Championing African Excellence."
Vice President Mahama said Ms Appiah's award should be a challenge to the youth.
Mr Adjololo said although people viewed Ghanaian films with contempt talents abounded to give the industry a new image. He said films helped to entertain and to disseminate information and asked the Government to set up a special fund to assist players in the industry.
Ms Appiah, whose role she played in "Beyonce - the President's Daughter" also stressed the need for actors and actresses to be supported to move to a higher pedestal.
