For the numerous Ghanaians who witnessed the crowning of the youngest Malaika Queen, Hamamat Montia, last year, her charming smile will probably be on their minds for a very long time but certainly not the crown!
Come Sunday morning at the Erata Hotel, the organizers of the show would begin another journey to the search and crowning of the next Malaika queen.
The Miss Malaika beauty pageant has over the years aimed at discovering young women between the ages of 18-25, whose focus and attitude to life reflect the young and modern African woman.
It is a search for that budding young woman who is perceived to be beautifully groomed both inside and outside. That is why at the auditioning, which is only three days away from today, judges would not only look out for physical appearance but also a high level of intelligence.
According to the organizers of the pageant, Charterhouse, the search is limited to young women between the ages of 18-25 who have all the above-mentioned qualities and are willing to work hand-in-hand with the National Malaria Control Board to reduce the spread of malaria nationwide.
Over the past ten months, Hamamat Montia has closely worked with the board in its fight against malaria. Her activities with the board was a continuation of what her predecessor, Patricia Akuamoah began.
The auditioning train would make another ‘landing’ at the Kumasi Miklin Hotel on August 12 for the second batch of the screening.
As begun last year, the top ten finalists of this year’s competition would spend a week touring one of the world’s most attractive countries while the winner would drive home a brand new car among other enviable prizes.
