| Distributors expose fake music charts |

For sometime now, most Ghanaian radio stations have been running music charts on their airwaves.
The chart is usually a compilation, which is determined by sales figures generated by wholesalers and vendors, and radio airplay in major regions of the country.
However, an interview with distributors, vendors and some producers revealed that most of these stations do not go to them for sales figures and facts about the market.
Mrs Doris Boateng of the Shepherd Music, expressed her disappointment at the differences between some of the charts and what’s actually happening on the music market. She said some of the songs toping the charts are not really what people are buying.
She therefore congratulated Radio Gold’s Solid Gold Countdown for their weekly visit to the market for proper information from distributors and vendors like Lucky Sounds, Rocky Music Production, Adjei-Boadi, Big Ben, the Shepherd and others.
Patience Inkoom of Mckel Ventures said one of the problems facing the vendors is the fact that producers take songs on float at reduced price, thereby having a negative impact on the market lately.
However, reports from distributors and vendors show that the demand for songs like ‘Akua Ataa’ from Kofi B, Christiana Love’s ‘Awurade akai me’ and ‘me nwu’ from Ohemaa Mercy is still high which explains why they are on top of the chart.
