Who is on radio has extended its wings wide again and this time we bring to readers Ohemaa Esther from the region whose radio presenters feel neglected and rejected in the industry.
Ohemaa hosts Sky Fm’s lunch time special and “heart to heart” a talk show program is fortunate to be the first from the Brong Ahafo Region and Sunyani to be precise to appear in this column.
Smart looking Ohemaa Esther has been in the radio industry for the past five (5) years initially as a secretary at Jerryson Fm formally at Sampa and now at Nkoranza. She never had love for radio presenting when she was growing up but her colleagues at Jerryson Fm made her develop some love for the job and then took it upon themselves to teach her how to operate the console and other equipment in the studio. Gradually she developed some passion for the job and then she became familiar with the way of pushing the knobs and then she was asked to present and host programs in the evenings.
She moved from the position of been an evening presenter to a co-host on some selected programs and the C.E.O upon discovering her talent gave her a program to handle. Lunch Time Rhythms was the program given her and she handled this program perfectly well for a year and then fled to Omega FM at Drobo also for a year where she handled the same kind of Program. Ohemaa later relocated herself at Gift Fm in Dormaa Ahenkro where she was the host of their lunch time program “Work and Happiness”.
She became more vibrant at Gift Fm and worked with them for three (3) years. Four months ago she decided to have a change of environment and so joined she Sky Fm at Sunyani where she is currently blazing and making so much “noise” in the municipality with her lunch time program and her “Heart to Heart” program; a talk show program that emphasizes mainly on how to secure peaceful relationships.
Although Ohemaa Esther came to Sky Fm not long ago she is really making an impact in the radio industry in Sunyani and according to her; “radio was not part of my childhood dream but now I am really enjoying what I am doing now”.
She also took the opportunity to advice event organizers not to always lay emphasis on only presenters in Accra and sometimes Kumasi but also spread their wings across similar to the initiative the Weekly Fylla has taken because there are equally competent presenters in the other region who can also do what those in the other regions are doing.
