Miss Malaika 2006, Hamamat Montia would begin a tour of some selected schools in Tema, Accra and Tamale in September, where she would give talks on the prevention of malaria and also distribute treated mosquito nets.
A few months after Hamamat was crowned Miss Malaika 2006 she began her campaign with the National Malaria Control Board through a sponsored walk in Jamestown, where she distributed mosquito nets to some residents of the area.
According to the organizers of the pageant, Charterhouse, each school would be entitled to 20 mosquito nets. These nets would be distributed to students who excel in a planned quiz.
The quiz would test students’ knowledge in malaria prevention, treatment and symptoms.
Over the past four years, the Miss Malaika beauty pageant has aimed at discovering young women between the ages of 18-25, whose focus and attitude to life reflect that of the young, modern African woman.
Each year, the search discovers budding young women who exhibit true beauty both on the inside and outside.
It is for this reason that the screening panel at the two auditioning centres look out for physical appearance as well as high level of intelligence.
On GTV each week, the show airs on Sundays at 3:30pm and at 8:30pm on Wednesdays and Fridays.
As began last year, the final ten of this year’s competition would be taken on a trip to one of the world’s most attractive countries.
Come Friday August 31 at Alisa Hotel, North Ridge, the 16 finalists to compete for Hamamat’a crown would be unveiled.
The event begins at 6pm.
