A new choral group, St Francis of Assisi Youth Choir, based in Awoshie, has disclosed that it is really poised to be the number one musical group in the Catholic Church and the country as a whole.
The group stated this at a party organized for it by a patron for its splendid performance over the past four years.
With a membership of 50, the choir has progressed so steadily to the extent that it is now recognized as the most outstanding youth choir of the archdiocese of Accra and beyond.
Founded four years ago by the church to serve the youth service, the choir is known also for its wonderful performance in and outside the church.
If you love listening to classical pieces and choral music, then try attending their programme, for you cannot help but wish to spend all your life attending their programmes.
In an address, the patron of the group, Mrs. Caroline Afram-Adjei who organized the party for them, advised the youth to take the service of God seriously.
According to her, “God has given you the voice to sing to glorify his name so you should use it as such and be ready to do it with all your heart, mind and strength.”
Mrs Afram-Adjei who was once a chorister herself, advised the youth choir to always remain in the service of God and as well have the nation at heart.
“Being a Catholic and as such a youth is not an easy task, as you tend to face so many challenges and pressure from the orthodox churches,” she observed.
A member of the choir told Beatwaves, “When parents, elders and opinion leaders distance themselves from the youth, they tend to think that they are not of importance to society.”
“We appreciate the encouragement and motivation Mrs. Caroline Afram-Adjei has offered us and I think this would motivate us to put up our best for the church and the nation.”
The ever-growing choir, Beatwaves learnt, is an unbeatable one. In March 2003 the choir was formed with the objective of serving the Catholic Church and the development of the youth in the church and beyond through the medium of singing.
Members of the choir are between the ages of 15 and 30 and are made up of junior and senior high school students, tertiary students and workers.
The choir remains under the umbrella of Mr. John Edem Alaglo, the choir master and conductor, who is a product of the Music Academy of the University College of Education, Winneba.
With a vision of competing with the Winneba Youth Choir and becoming an internationally-acclaimed choir that projects a positive image of the African youth and African choral music, the St Francis of Assisi Youth Choir works hard and forms productive associations with other recognized choirs in the country, while remaining distinctively Ghanaian.
The choir, which gives out a repertoire of songs from all nations of the world, tribes and Latin is yet to come out with its own album.
The choir has participated in a lot of competitions and won a lot of awards as well.
