Four of the finalists of the TV3 Realty show, Mentor 1 have been arrested on Monday September 24, 2007 for allegedly trying to travel with fake documents.
The four were arrested after they had left the premises of the British Embassy where they had gone to apply for visas for a trip to the UK.
The four Andy, Maya, Prince and Ruth, who were arrested and detained at the Police Headquarters, were however released on bail around 5:00pm on the same day.
According to Andy, one of the four who spoke to Joy News, they went to the embassy with the understanding that they were to collect visas to go to the UK as part of their awards as finalists of the TV reality show, but they were told they had fake documents for which they were arrested.
He said, even though, they asked the police to show them which of their documents were fake, the police did not.
But Mrs. Janet Caboo Danquah, the PRO of TV3, denied the claim in an interview with Joy News. She said, even though, the trip was part of the packages for the finalists, it was cancelled when the TV station realised that the sponsor, a UK based Ghanaian who had offered to pay for the trip was not genuine.
She said the finalists were duly informed and told to forget about the trip. She however said, other packages were offered to the finalists, but they rejected these, and went ahead to deal directly with the said sponsor, whose name she gave as Odamtey.
She said TV3 was not aware of plans until the four were picked by the police on Monday.
But Andy disagreed with her and insisted that TV3 told them the trip was part of the package.
Meanwhile, a meeting scheduled between the four and TV3 on Tuesday September 25, 2007 could not come on, because according to one of the finalists, Maya, the time was not convenient for them.
