Over a thousand fun-seekers from Accra and beyond last Saturday joined Muslim communities in and around Nima to celebrate a show dubbed SALAFEST.

The event, which was to mark the Eid-ul Fitr celebrations, was rather a time for sharing national culture and fostering religious and social harmony.

Organized by Vibe FM in collaboration with the Council of Muslim and Northern Zongo Chiefs, the festival, which was held at the Nima high street was sponsored by Voice of America (VOA), the Public Affairs Unit of the American Embassy and MTN.

Activities for the day began at about 2pm in the presence of the chief of Ayawaso and various community chiefs amid drumming, singing and dancing by different cultural troupes.

Other groups from Niger, Mali, Benin, Chad and Nigeria also exhibited beautiful Muslim culture with special cultural dance performances.

The event could not have been better without remarkable renditions from artistes billed for the show. Among them were VIP, Samini, FBS, Sydney, Tic Tac and a few others.

His Excellency Alhaji Aliu Mahama was the special guest, who danced to Zongo music with the people.
