ONE OF GHANA’S leading drama groups, Theatre Mirrors would this weekend present a hilarious drama, “The Wrong Dish”, highlighting the worth of African values, at the Citizen Center, Asylum Down in Accra.

The captivating drama invokes the healthy and detrimental day-to-day activities of some traditional rulers and how this affects their immediate subjects.

This dives into the Ghanaian traditional setup, where chiefs are so powerful that it is literally accepted that women in their kingdom belong to them, but so says tradition - they dare not touch somebody’s wife. This is emphasized in “The Wrong Dish”.

In the drama, one of the Ashanti chiefs, Omanhene stepped over the literal notion that every woman belongs to them.

He could not control his amorous emotions towards his own brother’s beautiful daughter.

Unfortunately, he ate from “the wrong dish.” His action thus sent shock waves through the kingdom and this called for a strong reaction from the Asantehene, who ordered for his destoolment from the throne.

Whether he would truly be destooled or left for fate to decide, the rest of the story would unfold today and tomorrow. The rate is a cool ten Ghana cedis (GH¢10).

Written and directed by Gloria Yartey and Emmary Brown respectively, the drama features some of the country’s best theater performers like Eyram Christie as Nhyira, the beautiful daughter who confused the king, and regular Mirrors performers like Sheriff, Lily, Beatrice and Jackson.
