The chiefs and opinion leaders in the Atiwa District of the Eastern Region organised a five-day programme as part of their Easter activities at Asaman Tanfoe, near Anyinam.

The programme, which was climaxed on Easter Sunday with a fund-raising rally, was to discuss problems militating against the area’s development and also to raise GH¢500,000 for the completion of a social centre and a primary school block under construction at Tanfoe.

Among those present were the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. General J. B. Danquah; Col (Rtd), Isaac Boabeng, Justice Tweneboah Kodua and Mr Y. B. Amponsah, former Human Resource Director, Anglogold Ashanti.

Others were Mr Yaw Bosompem, acting Chief Labour Officer; Mr Kingsley Dwemor, Managing Director, Capital View Hotels and leaders of all the religious groups and organisations in the area.

In an address, Barima Kwame Koh II, chief of Asaman Tanfoe, asked parents to be concerned with the moral decadence among the youth in the area.

He said with the rising anti-social activities of the youth, one wonders whether the churches and the religious organisations are making any impact on their congregations and society as a whole.
