Business people are interested in working in an environment which would facilitate the growth of their businesses or enterprises.
For us, the fact that the government is gradually moving away from participating in business enterprises means that it wants to play the role of a facilitator.
It would mean that the government would pursue policies and embark on actions which would create the congenial atmosphere for the growth of enterprises.
Sound economic and management policies by the government are critical for creating the congenial environment for investment, both local and foreign.
The Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC), Mr J. H. Mensah, has urged business people to avail themselves of the prevailing social and economic environment which they yearned for in the past to grow their businesses.
Records show that all the fundamentals are working towards economic stability, which is good for business people. Now that inflation is dipping, interest rate slowly but surely coming down and there is price stability, there is every reason why business people should be happy.
But they should not make that happiness a fleeting one but more sustainable. Obviously, in the course of carrying out their activities commercial litigation would arise, some of which may be easily settled while others may have to go to court.
When the government encourages the setting up of commercial courts to deal with such cases expeditiously, it will work in the interest of the parties involved.
Consequently, it would be suicidal if the improved business climate is allowed to evaporate into thin air. It is important for those in business to create jobs for our people to earn incomes to cater for their families.
The more people are gainfully employed, the greater the revenue which will accrue to the government through taxes.
Indeed, when the rule of law is allowed to flourish, so that any aggrieved person can exercise his or her right to seek redress from a competent court of jurisdiction, it enhances social justice and fairness.
It also indicates that other people’s rights cannot be trampled upon with impunity and that those who deserve justice would get it.
The fact that many countries have developed because they allowed the dictates of sound economic management and the rule of law to have firm roots in their administration should encourage all to support the prevailing atmosphere.
It is important for all of us to realise that when the people have freedom, they are able to develop their potential to the fullest and that is what the country needs.
Ghana is our country; we have none apart from it and it is imperative that we all contribute our quota towards its advancement.
The rapid development of the country should involve all the social partners, with everybody playing his or her part.
