THE VICE President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama was yesterday installed the development chief (Nkosuohene) of Sogakope, under the stool name, Togbe Avulekpor Soga I.
This was in recognition of his support toward development of the area in particular and the Volta Region in general.
The Paramount Chief of Soga, Togbe Avudzega Soga I who conferred the honour, decorated the Vice President in rich kente and other regalia.
In his remarks, Togbe Avudzega Soga I said Vice President Togbe Avulekpor had enhanced the lives of the people of Soga through the provision of social amenities.
The chief recalled that seven months ago when Aliu Mahama visited Sogakope, he appealed to the NPP guru to see to the development of the area, especially the rehabilitation of the Adidome-Sogakope road.
He added as a member of a listening government, the Vice President had ensured that the roads were awarded on contract. Describing the Vice President as a worthy son of the area, Togbe Avudzega Soga appealed to him to adopt Sogakope as his home.
On his part, Vice President Togbe Avulekpor expressed appreciation to the chiefs and people of Soga for the recognition and honour done him.
He perceived the honour as a great challenge, adding, “The title demonstrated that the weak has become the mighty.
Also, I see this honour not only to myself but to the President and the good people of the country.”
Since assumption of office, Government had charted the path that would bring prosperity to the people and it had done so much in terms of development for the country that “even the blind can testify to this”, he stressed, attracting cheers from the people.
Vice President Togbe Avulekpor used the occasion to remind the youth of the National Youth Employment Program and encouraged them to enter into various ventures under the programme.
Meanwhile, Alhaji Aliu Mahama has cut the sod for reconstruction works on the 30 km Sogakope-Adidome-Ho road.
