Former president Rawlings and his wife together with four other African Heads of State have been invited to take part in the Independence Anniversary Celebration of the Republic of Liberia.

The celebration is Liberia’s 161st independence Anniversary.

A statement signed by Aide to the former President Kofi Adams says the invitation was in recognition of the president’s personal efforts in ensuring peace in the country, during his reign as President, and Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States.(ECOWAS).

While in Liberia the former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings is expected to address a Women’s group.

The celebration is to be held today, July 26.

The West African country became an Independent Republic in 1822 following the first settlement by An American Colonization Society.
