Police informant kidnapped

A gang of chainsaw operators in Nkawkaw in the Eastern Region, have kidnapped a man believed to be a police informant while armed police officers looked on.

The man believed to in his thirties is said to have provided the police with information that could have led to the arrest of the chainsaw operators.

Joy News' correspondents said the supposed informant had been walking around Kyidom Spot, a popular bar in the town when the men pounced on him.

An eye witness told Joy News that the kidnappers had threatened to kill their captive.

The Nkawkaw District Police Commander, ACP George Ankobrah, confirmed the report but denied that there were police officials at the scene.

He related that the activities of chainsaw operators had been a major worry to the police in the district.
