Personnel of Tema Community Two Police have re-arrested Alfred Kofi Adovor, one of four remanded accused persons who escaped from police cells last Thursday.

Adovor 20, charged with armed robbery was re-arrested at BBC Down in Community Two around midnight on Sunday.

DCOP John Kudalor, Tema Regional Police Commander told journalists in Tema on Monday that Adovor was alleged to have initiated the jail break during which David Kwabena Asampana 25, Sumaila Adams 18, all charged with robbery and Simon Frimpong 18, charged with stealing escaped from cells.

There were 20 suspects in the cell at the time of the jailbreak.

DCOP Kudalor said as a normal practice, the police personnel in-charge of the station at the time of the escape opened the cells at about 0500 hours to collect the dustbin to be emptied by the labourer.

He said immediately the policeman opened the cell, Adovor gave him a blow on the face which resulted in a scuffle between the suspects and the policeman.

DCOP Kudalor said the night investigator on duty who was in his office at the time quickly entered the charge office and locked the main gate after the policeman on duty had shouted for help when he realized he could not handle the suspects.

He said the suspects broke the louvre blades of the charge office and escaped through the window.

The Police Administration gave the police personnel on duty a 10-day ultimatum to produce the four escapees or face administrative disciplinary actions.

DCOP Kudalor therefore appealed to the public to volunteer information that would lead to the arrest of the other suspects.
