The Magistrate Court at Apam has placed an interim injunction on a meeting to acclaim Mr. Joe Kingsley Hackman as the parliamentary candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in Gomoa West.

The meeting, which was to take place at Gomoa Ankamu near Apam on Friday, May 9, was called off at the eleventh hour due to the exparte motion.

Mr. Ishmael Kofi Turkson, Agona Swedru-based lawyer, filed the motion on behalf of Mr Benjamin Nabra Tawiah of Apam, Mr Isaac Eduful of Gomoa Kyiren and Mr. Enoch Sey of Gomoa Assin, all NPP polling station chairmen.

According to the motion, the plaintiffs were praying the court to compel the respondents, the Central Regional NPP executives, the Gomoa West Constituency executives and the Gomoa District Electoral Officer, to abide by the party's constitution in electing a parliamentary candidate.

The plaintiffs were of the view that since another aspirant was contesting the seat with Mr. Hackman, the MP, the party's constitution called for primaries but not acclamation.

Throwing more light on their action in an interview, Mr. Tawiah said they took the action to prevent a break in the front of the party since the unconstitutional stand of the executives could make the other aspirant to contest the seat as independent candidates.

Mr. Tawiah said they were disappointed about the double standard attitude of the Regional Executives who made some MPs who are ministers to go through the primaries but are refusing to allow Mr. Hackman to do the same.

He mentioned Professor Dominic Fobih, Mr. Samuel Owusu-Adjei, and Mr. Samuel Obodai as some of the ministers and MPs in the region who went through primaries.

"We want to know what makes Mr. Hackman special MP who must not go through primaries,?" he asked, and added that "what is good for the goose is also good for the gander."
