Critics of the government’s sale of 70% shares of Ghana Telecom to Britain's Vodafone Group Plc, have been asked to put a stop to the political undertone being assigned to the deal.
The chairman of the Nana Akufo-Addo campaign team, Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, who took a swipe at opponents of the transaction said, what they are doing “doesn’t make sense”.
A number of Ghanaians including politicians – mainly from the minority side - and civil societies have criticized the deal; saying it epitomizes the lack of confidence in Ghanaians to manage their own affairs.
Others have called for a better agreement because trading the 70% stake of GT for $900 million devalues the national asset.
Parliamentarians have been recalled from recess to decide the fate of the transaction on August 12.
Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey told Citi FM on Thursday the argument that GT is a national asset, and for that reason, it should not be sold does not also hold water.
He said the transaction would enable GT to play a leading role in rendering quality services, devoid of any hitches, to the Ghanaian customers.
He said government is convinced it is entering into a good deal and disagreed that the government is rushing it because the administration is leaving office.
