A concerned group, connected to the Convention People’s Party, has vowed to step beyond the boundaries of Ghana to use any available means to stall the impending sale of Ghana Telecom’s shares to the UK based Vodafone.

The group says it is prepared to sue the Government of Ghana and the Britain’s Vodafone Group Plc, should they go ahead to conclude the transaction.

The law suit would not be limited to the courts of Ghana, but it would be pursued to the shores of the European Union.

“So we are telling Vodafone that they will not only be a party to the law suit in this country, but they will be a party to a law suit in the European Union,” Prof. Agyeman Badu Akosa, a member of the group told Joy News.

The Government of Ghana is selling 70% of its shares in Ghana Telecom to Vodafone for $900 million.

The deal is facing severe resistance from some individuals, as well as, civil society groups and politicians from the opposition parties.

The leading member of the CPP said the group is charging both parties with “complicity in corruption”.

Prof. Akosa explained: “For us this is a fraudulent document, it will not stand up to better practice anywhere in this world.”

He said there has not been any proper valuation of the transaction and called on Ghanaians to stand up against it.

He said the deal is a mockery of the national asset, describing it as “buy one get give free” business.

The Parliament of Ghana was not able to ratify the agreement before it went for recess last month.

However, members of the august House have been recalled from recess to decide the fate of the transaction on August 12.
