JAKE Obetsebi-Lamptey, Minister for Tourism and Diasporan Relations is in Atlanta, USA, to participate in the Martin Luther King march to be held today. He will be the Grand Marshal at the function.
The march is in commemoration of the one led by the late Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King to address the inequalities in the system at that time.
A release from the Ministry of Tourism and Diasporan Relation, said that honorary citizenship of Atlanta was conferred on the minister during his last visit to the city, as a result of which he has been asked to be the Grand Marshal and participate in this year’s parade.
The gesture, according to the release, was in recognition and support of the "Joseph Project" which is to be launched in July this year.
"The Joseph Project is part of the Akwaaba Anyemi programme aimed at welcoming our brothers and sisters in the Diaspora visiting the motherland at least once in a lifetime. The idea is to bridge the gap created by the slave trade and unite all people of the African descent," it said.
While in the United States, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey will also attend the premiere of the Anthony Bondian show on Ghana which features Ghanaian cuisine to entice tourists to visit Ghana for a taste of Ghana’s food.
The release noted that the documentary coming in the wake of the very applauded documentary entitled ‘Ghana, the Presidential Tour’ that was earlier on premiered in the Discovery Channel and subsequently aired in the USA, Europe and Ghana, was expected to further the fillip of the Ghana tourism promotional efforts.
