Antrak Air has extended its services to the Brong Ahafo Region with an inaugural flight that touched down in Sunyani on Friday.

The 46-seater aircraft landed at the Sunyani Airport and Madam Ama Busia, a Member of the Council of State, cut a tape to formally inaugurate the flight.

The airline will initially operate four morning flights to Sunyani on Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

Among the dignitaries at the ceremony were Mr. J.H. Mensah, the Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, Prof Christopher Ameyaw Akumfi, the Minister of Ports, Harbours and Railways, Okatakyie Agyeman Kudom 1V, President of Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs and Alhaji Asuma Banda, the Chairman of Antrak Group of Companies.

Mr Mensah appealed to entrepreneurs to take advantage of the new technology in the aviation industry to launch their products on the international market.

He said with the introduction of air freighting, which has proved to be one of the most important lubricants for development, there was the need for the business community to step up their economic activities.

"Any nation that wants to join the world must join the new technology to ensure the progress of its people", he said and thanked Alhaji Banda for his efforts.

Prof Ameyaw Akumfi said the extension of the airline's services to the Brong Ahafo Region was a significant monument as the country prepares to celebrate its 50th independence anniversary. Alhaji Banda said the extension of service to the region was another milestone in the annals of Antrak Air.

He commended the government for initiating the economic dispensation that had attracted investors and appealed for the upgrading of domestic airports to allow for night flights.
