THE HOSPITALITY INDUSTRY CAN CONTRIBUTE TO THE TURN AROUND OF THE ECONOMY

The Head of the Department of Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management at the Sunyani Polytechnic, Madam Philomena Mensah says the Hospitality Industry has a great potential of changing the economic situation of the country if it is well developed.

According to her, what is needed is for government to appreciate the role the Hospitality Industry plays in the economy.

Madam Mensah said this in an interview with Radio Ghana after a quiz competition organized bythe Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management Association.

Madam Mensah called on government to make funds available to encourage research that would lead to the improvement of local dishes to make them internationally acceptable.

The President of the Kumasi Polytechnic branch of the Association, Heartwill Woanayah urged parents to allow their children to pursue the Hotel, Catering and Institutional Management course if they choose that option.

The President of the Sunyani Polytechnic branch of the Association, John Adansi urged students to exhibit high sense of professionalism after completing the course to help promote the hospitality industry.

At the end of the competition Sunyani Polytechnic and Kumasi Polytechnic emerged tops with 43points each.
